What types of international cuisine are there in Northern Cyprus?

 North Cyprus is blessed with many places where you can have a snack or a delicious meal, or just somewhere tp sit and drink and people watch, – from the simplest taverns to international style restaurants, the choice is simply stunning. The northern part of the island can please its residents and tourists with dishes prepared from fresh ingredients, as well as friendly staff and quite affordable prices.

No holiday in Northern Cyprus is complete without at least one visit to Kyrenia Harbor, a place that comes alive in the evenings as locals and visitors stroll along the waterfront. I also advise you to visit the Bellapais area, where, under the majestic illumination of the famous abbey, you can taste delicious traditional dishes.

But Cyprus is not only kebab and lahmacun. We want to tell you about restaurants in the cities of Northern Cyprus where you can taste Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Indian and Mexican dishes.

Chinese cuisine Chinese House / Dynasty / The Dragon / SushiCo

Chinese cuisine is one of the most ancient, popular and delicious in the world. Spicy, sour, sweet – it strikes with a variety of tastes. We have compiled a list of places in Northern Cyprus where you can taste Chinese dishes.

Chinese House

The Chinese House Restaurant is beautifully decorated with tables set on a terrace surrounded by gardens and fountains. This gives the establishment a prestigious look. The food is of excellent quality, and the service according to the reviews of many customers is just top. The price may seem a bit more expensive than other local restaurants, but this is real high quality Chinese food.

Dynasty

The restaurant focuses on two cuisines – Indian and Chinese. The institution is perfect for friendly meetings, as well as for family holidays. It is worth noting that the prices here are much cheaper than in other restaurants. The menu is varied, ranging from light bites like spring rolls to main courses (beef, lamb and seafood), fried rice, and simple and hearty vegetarian options.

Dragon

The network of restaurants “Dragon” has firmly occupied its niche among establishments with Chinese cuisine in Northern Cyprus. All restaurants are located at convenient points on the island.

Azra Claires

Pan Asian cuisine, with a fine mix of Sushi, and traditional dishes. Their Orange Chicken signature dish is something not to be missed.

Yong Chow

A small roadside restaurant with great food and a takeaway service. Polite staff and friendly environment.

SushiCo

This restaurant is our favorite, because here, in addition to Chinese cuisine, there is also a choice of Japanese and Thai cuisine. And the most important thing that visitors like is the presence of the Sushico app, where you can easily order food at home and at the same time get cashback after each order. The more you order, the higher your rank will be (ninja, samurai or guru). In addition, on holidays you can get certificates for a certain amount. I can say with confidence that their service is at the highest level, and to create a unique atmosphere, you will be offered fortune cookies

Indian cuisine Jashan / Kamares / Taj

Dishes of Indian cuisine only at first glance may seem the same in taste – just spicy, but believe me, in the national cuisine there are many treats without spices, delicious desserts and drinks. Indian cuisine is so multifaceted and varied that one visit to a restaurant can hardly taste at even a fraction of the national dishes.

Jashan

This place is a delight for lovers of Indian cuisine and is the perfect option for any occasion, from business meetings to birthdays and anniversaries, or just a casual meeting with friends. There is a wide range of dishes to choose from that will satisfy the most discerning clientele!

Our favorite dishes are, of course, Chicken Butter, Tikka Masala Lamb and freshly baked coconut naan. Incredible!

The service is beyond praise: in the restaurant, which is located in Girne in the Karaoglanoglu district, the owner of all restaurants himself works; he personally approaches each visitor and asks if everything was pleasant. And the interior will make you feel like you are in the heart of Mumbai.

Kamares

The Kamares restaurant is delicious, atmospheric and fun. Sauces freshly prepared from natural ingredients according to  special recipes will perfectly complement any dish from the menu.

The Indian style in the interior harmoniously combines the ascetic lifestyle of yogis, the traditions of Hinduism, the majesty of Indian temples. The design of the restaurant includes bright colors, national patterns, carefully selected decor and impressive details. Music and an incredibly attractive aroma of dishes allow you to enjoy the sweet moments of life. Go and see for yourself!

Taj

In Alsancak, just off the main road is this hidden delight. A small family rum restaurant with a delightful terrace and superb food. If you’re up to it, try the garlic naan bread as an accompaniment to your choice of main dish. 

Mexican Cuisine: Los Amigos / Kervan

Mexican cuisine is a synthesis of the traditional cuisine of the natives of Mexico – the Aztecs and the conquerors of the Spaniards. As you know, many Mexican dishes are very spicy, and chili is generally a hallmark of Mexican cuisine. The fact is that spicy seasoning helps to keep food fit longer in hot climates. Salsa is another sauce that Mexican cuisine is proud of. Side dish recipes predominantly consist of rice, beans and corn.

Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant

This restaurant has the most famous Mexican dishes – quesadillas, tortillas, fajitas. An interesting burrito dish, a kind of fast food that Mexican cuisine offers. Recipes with photos of burritos are very reminiscent of the shawarma we are already familiar with. And of course drinks – Mexican beer and tequila. Tomatoes are very popular, and Mexican meat dishes are often prepared with avocados. They cook both pork and beef, but especially Mexican cuisine loves chicken. We also really liked the churros dessert with cinnamon and chocolate sauce. Yummy!

Kervan

To be honest, when I really want Mexican cuisine, I always go to Kervan Cafe&Bar. You can relax on the municipal beach of the same name Kevan-Saray, swim in the azure Mediterranean Sea, and in the evening have a Mexican fajita dinner, enjoying the most beautiful sunset in Kyrenia. Polite staff and reasonable prices only add to the charm of this place.

Italian cuisine

Bella Merit

The Bella Merit restaurant is located in the prestigious Merit Royal Hotel in Alsancak. Top Italian cuisine with amazing service. Summer dining on the outside terrace is an experience not to be missed. Ideal for that ‘Special Occassion’. Reservation is recommended. Weekends are mostly booked out.

Veni Vici

This roadside restaurant in Alsancak offers a mix of European and Italian food. Although on the main road the ambience is pleasant. In summer they also have open air film nights.
